Debut Album Release
The Beast,
Silence Fiction
Duke Coffeehouse, 8pm

On October 16th, visionary hip-hop quartet The Beast will release Silence Fiction, their self-produced debut album. To celebrate the release of the album, The Beast is headlining a performance at Duke Coffeehouse in Durham. Durham Arts Council is a co-sponsor of the release party along with Vert & Vogue and Robust Records. A portion of proceeds from the album release event will be donated to support the DAC Emerging Artists Program.

Capturing the group's first two years of risk-taking and progressive songwriting, the album presents a fully-fledged introduction to one of the most innovative bands to emerge from North Carolina. The Beast lead vocalist, Pierce Freelon, along with his mother, Nnenna Freelon, 6-time Grammy nominee and former DAC Emerging Artist, assisted DAC in spring 2009 by performing in a special DAC benefit event.

"DAC is thrilled to see the musical legacy of the Freelons continuing to grow and evolve," said DAC Executive Director, Sherry DeVries.
