Winifred Garrett - Harp

Winifred Garrett is the Artistic Director/Founder of The Harp Studio in Durham, NC and Harp Instructor at WG Pearson GT Magnet Elementary School, Winifred Garrett is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and holds a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Principal Harpist for the Fayetteville Symphony, Ms. Garrett has played with many orchestras across the state including the Durham Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, and the North Carolina Symphony. A versatile performer, she has performed with such greats as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Spike Lee. As an instructor, Ms. Garrett has coached three students to first prize winnings in local and regional talent competitions.

Monifa Harris - Voice

Monifa Harris is originally from South Florida and moved to North Carolina after earning her M.A. in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She enjoys using her foundation of vocal technique to sing across a range of musical genres. She has had the privilege of singing hooks for hip hop tracks, roles with opera companies and concerts of Greek Folk in Greece. She uses this experience to impart the basics of vocal technique to other singers so they can use it to create the music of their choice. Teaching technique along with tools of stage performance will create a confident and well-rounded singer. Her newest projects include singing in “Flying High” with Panayotis Terzakis which highlights and fuses African American Spirituals, Greek Folk Songs and Classical works and working as the Voice Coach / Collaborator for “No One Hurts You More Than S/Mother” with Shannon Wong Lerner who has published work with the French philosopher Luce Irigaray. Companies she has worked with include: Intermezzo Opera, Opera Company of NC, Capital Opera, NC Ballet, NC Master Chorale and Bulgarian Opera Orchestra.

Julius Prescott - Cello

Julius Prescott is a native of Durham who received his musical training at Baldwin-Wallace College and Conservatory and the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Prescott is Assistant Principal Cellist in the Durham Symphony and performs with the Raleigh Symphony. His orchestral experience includes performances with the NC Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and Tar River Symphony to name a few. He is also the founder of Indigo Strings. Mr. Prescott’s cello students have done well at all levels. His students have placed at All State, Triangle Youth Phil Harmonic, and a number of other testimonies of that fact. He believes part of being a great player is to be a great teacher.

Alejandro Santoyo - Piano

Alejandro Santoyo was born in Southbend, Indiana and has lived in the US, Europe, and Latin America, making him 100% multicultural. (He is also fluent in Spanish and French.) He holds a Masters Degree in Music Theory and Composition from UNM. He is passionate about teaching and sharing the wonders of music and sound with his students. He has been teaching private piano lessons and composition for over 15 years. Alejandro incorporates technique, reading and the development of a musical ear and improvisation in his teaching, to enable his students to play with and without sheet music in the future. Alejandro is an active performer, producer, and composer for different projects in the US and internationally.

Luciano Suarez - Guitar

Luciano Joseph Suárez moved to the Raleigh-Durham area from Italy after having lived, taught and performed overseas for over a decade. He is currently teaching at North Carolina State University and performs frequently in the area as a sideman for various groups. Although Luciano’s background is primarily classical, this Florida native ventured into jazz relatively later in his life, combining the rich cultural heritage with which he was raised to develop his own musical vocabulary. “Improvisation has always been a big part of who I am as a musician, regardless of what I am playing.” Luciano holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami and a Master’s degree from Florida State University. He has studied with Bruce Holzman, Albert Koonce and José Costas. He has also performed in the masterclasses of Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Ricardo Iznaola, Yo Nishimura and Pepe Romero.
