DURHAM CREATIVE VITALITY INDEX™ ANNOUNCEMENT
Breakfast and Program Thursday, November 4 8:00 am - 9:45 am Location: McKinney - American Tobacco Campus
Featuring: Linda A. Carlisle Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources
Find out how Durham measures up statewide and nationally as a top-ranked creative community. The Creative Vitality Index™, or the CVI, uses streams of occupational and revenue data from both the for-profit and non-profit sectors to measure the annual changes in the economic health of various segments of arts-related creative economy. North Carolina's Creative Industry enterprises are grouped into three primary sub-clusters: Arts, Entertainment and New Media, and Design. The CVI provides an easily understandable measure of economic health and allows for annual comparison and cross-city, regional, and state comparisons.
Great coffee shops, crowded bookstores, a lively music scene, well-designed buildings, thriving art galleries, successful design firms, exciting museums and theatres, opportunities for arts participation - these are elements we find in the communities that drive the new economy. In places like Boston, Seattle and Durham, this kind of energetic, open atmosphere attracts good companies and skilled workers interested in a high quality of life - which in turn leads to a self-sustaining cycle of economic and cultural vitality.
The Creative Vitality Index™ was conceived as a tool that states, counties, cities and towns can use to assess and enhance their creative edge.
Following the CVI presentation, the new Durham Business Committee for the Arts program will be introduced.
