Drawing and Painting Teaching Artist - Veteran Arts Program

The Durham Arts Council is seeking a drawing and painting teaching artist for its Veteran Arts program. This is a contract position for a 16 week program.

Program Summary

The Durham Arts Council's Veteran Arts program is a series of classes, including songwriting and drawing/painting, designed to contribute to veterans Whole Health produced in partnership with the Durham VA and The Joel Fund. The goals of the program include contributing to the participants' health and wellness, helping them build a personal community and providing a gateway for engaging with the community where they live as they develop their artists skills. The classes will take place every other Friday afternoon, initially at the Durham VA then moving to the Durham Arts Council, from September 2019-May 2020.

Job Summary

Teaching artists will ensure a high quality learning experience for participants working with them throughout the year and preparing for an end of year presentation. The teaching artist will be responsible for the development of curriculum and lesson plans and should create a safe learning environment to aid in social development and help foster a sense of community for the veterans enrolled to achieve programmatic goals. The teaching artist will also participate in mid-program and post-program surveys regarding program goals.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience and expertise in drawing and painting, art education and passion for teaching. Previous teaching experience is required. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team environment. A Master's degree in related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered. Background check is required.

Camp Instructors

Durham Arts Council is currently seeking visual and performing arts instructors for our year round camp program. Our year round camp is for students ages 5–13 and each camp is based on theme. The camp day is from 9am–3pm but instructors must also be available to work morning drop, from 8am–9am and/or aftercare, from 3pm–5:30pm, some of the time. Voice Instructor

Durham Arts Council is currently seeking individual music lesson instructors for voice lessons for its growing lesson program. DAC's music teaching faculty is composed of experienced professional musicians and educators skilled and highly qualified in pedagogy and performance with a commitment to quality and professionalism. Painting Instructors

Durham Arts Council is currently seeking painting instructors to teach primarily evening classes in watercolor, acrylics and oils beginning Fall 2019. DAC School's contracted instructors share with DAC a 50/50 split of all revenues collected per class. A Master of Arts degree is preferred, but equivalent experience is considered.
